Michael was born in South Africa, Gugulethu, on the 4th of June 1974. He still lives in Gugulethu, Section 2, with his partner and child. He finished standard 8 at Mvuzemuvze high school. Throughout his childhood and at school he created work out of wood and other mediums. He learnt through observing others at work and through experimentation.
In 1995 and 1996 he won art prizes. As well as doing his own artwork he taught pencil work and collage at Singajiki community development art project in 1999.
This was the year in which he started doing his 3-D collage work. At that time he used mainly cardboard and paint, but in 2001 he began using metal, which he cuts out and nails down, creating his township scenes. All his material for his collages are collected from scrap areas in Gugulethu. He is always looking for materials to work with, whatever he can find to enhance his work.
Michael enjoys his work and is constantly working on new ideas stemming from various found objects. He is also very interested in sharing his talent and teaching others how to do the collage work, so that they can earn a living and support their families.
Michael was a finalist in the prestigious Brett Kebble Art Competition 2004
